Vrdolyak's Trial Pushed Back Until November

Defense Attorneys Say They've Been Bombarded With Documents

CHICAGO (AP) ― Former Alderman Edward Vrdolyak's trial is postponed until November with defense attorneys saying they need more time after being bombarded with documents by the government.

Vrdolyak, once one of the city's top politicians, is accused of scheming to pressure money out of a developer. He's pleaded not guilty.

Defense attorneys said Thursday that the government recently dumped 250,000 documents on them and there's not time to study them before Sept. 15, when the trial was to begin.

Prosecutors must turn over documents that might be relevant to the defense.

Judge Milton Shadur pushed the trial back to Nov. 4, wondering aloud "what has the government been doing in not delivering this volume of material until now?"
