Man Charged In Deadly East Lakeview Hit-And-Run
Police: Scott Novello Struck And Killed Anca Ramniceanu With U-Haul Truck
CHICAGO (CBS) ―
A west suburban man has been charged with reckless homicide after he allegedly hit and killed a woman with his rented truck in the East Lakeview neighborhood, and kept driving.
Scott Novello, 41, of Willow Springs, was charged late Tuesday with reckless homicide, leaving the scene of an accident involving injury or death, and aggravated driving under the influence, all felonies, police News Affairs said.
Novello was driving a rented U-Haul truck through the intersection of Belmont Avenue and Sheridan Road when he first caused a traffic accident, then hit Anca Ramniceanu, 62, as she crossed the street, police said.
Ramniceanu, of the 3100 block of North Sheridan Road, was later pronounced dead at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Police investigators found that while Novello was not the one who rented the truck, he was the driver that day. The U-Haul was rented from Arizona, police said.
Novello was scheduled to appear in bond court Wednesday at the Cook County Criminal Courthouse.
