Dunkin' Donuts Offers Free Breakfast Gift Cards
$2 Cards Are Intended To Promote 99-Cent Menu
CHICAGO (CBS) ―
If you're in the right place Monday morning, you could get free breakfast from Dunkin' Donuts.
Starting at 7 a.m. Monday, the doughnut chain began handing out 20,000 gift cards with $2 on each to bring in new customers.
Employees were spread out at 500 locations in Chicago and the suburbs, such as train stations and public plazas.
The purpose is to publicize the chain's 99-cent menu. It includes a sausage, egg and cheese wrap; bacon, egg and cheese wrap; egg and cheese wrap; raspberry danish; hash browns; and a pack of five Munchkins.
The dollar menu concept among fast-food chains has been extremely popular, particularly amid the economic downturn. Some analysts say dollar menus are a necessity for chains hoping to compete with the likes of McDonald's Corp. and others.
