Drunk Driving Suspect: Dude I Do This Every Night

Last Name Of Man Charged With DUI Is Duis

PORTAGE, Ind. (Sun-Times Media Wire) ― A northwest Indiana man pulled over for drunken driving early Thursday allegedly told the state trooper: "Dude, I do this every night."

Police said he was more than four times over the state's legal blood alcohol limit.

About 2:20 a.m., the Porter County Sheriff's Department received a call of a truck being driven erratically, according to a release from Indiana State Police. A state trooper pulled over the 1995 Chevrolet S-10 pickup on Route 149 near County Road 1000N.

Zachary R. Duis of Portage allegedly had an open bottle of alcohol in the truck and failed a field sobriety test, the release said.

When he was taken to the Portage Police Department for a breath test, he allegedly told the trooper, "Dude, I do this every night; I'm straight up and not drunk!"

His blood alcohol level was allegedly four times Indiana's legal limit of .08 percent, the release said.

Duis was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, and police said he was wanted on two warrants for resisting law enforcement and furnishing alcohol to a minor. He was being held in the Porter County Jail on Thursday morning.
