Pedestrian Killed, 4 Hurt In Crash Near Midway
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
A man is dead and four are injured after an alleged drunken driving crash early Thursday near Midway Airport on the Southwest Side.
About 3 a.m., a vehicle traveling north on South Cicero Avenue swerved into the southbound lanes and struck a vehicle at 6931 S. Cicero Ave., police said. The vehicle continued southbound and struck a pedestrian at 6659 S. Cicero Ave.
The male pedestrian, Eliaf Nunez, 21, of 4246 W. 103rd St. in Oak Lawn, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead at 9:28 a.m, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Fire Media Affairs Cmdr. Will Knight said four others were also hurt in the crash, prompting a five-ambulance response to the scene.
Two people -- including the pedestrian -- were taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, one person was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital and two people were taken in good to fair condition to Holy Cross Hospital, Knight said.
The driver who caused the crash was in police custody Thursday, suspected of drunken driving, police said. No charges had been filed as of 9:30 p.m. Thursday.
Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.
