Trial Date Set For Drew Peterson's Gun Charge

Trial Coming Dec. 8

JOLIET, Ill. (AP) ― A judge in Will County has set a trial date in the gun charges case against former Bolingbrook police Sgt. Drew Peterson.

In an unrelated case, authorities earlier named the Bolingbrook man a suspect in the October disappearance of his wife, Stacy. He has not been charged in that case.

Authorities arrested Peterson in May for possessing an assault rifle with a barrel shorter than allowed by state law and for unlawfully transferring the rifle to his son. The two felony charges each carry a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

At a Thursday status hearing, the judge set a Dec. 8 trial date. He also scheduled a pretrial hearing for Sept. 18.

Peterson's attorney, Joel Brodsky, hasn't returned a message seeking comment.
