State Police: Drew Peterson Still 'Our Suspect'

Peterson Claimed Text Message Proved Wife Stacy Ran Off With Someone

BOLINGBROOK, Ill. (CBS) ― Just days after Drew Peterson and his attorney claimed a racy text message may prove Stacy Peterson ran off with another man, State Police reaffirmed Friday that the former Bolingbrook cop is still "our suspect" in the disappearance of his wife.

State Police issued a statement, noting Stacy Peterson's upcoming 24th birthday Sunday and saying "it is apparent that Stacy did not voluntarily cease all contact with her children, family and friends."

Investigators have recently taken a "revised view'' of the case and have followed "additional investigative tracks,'' the statement said.

Video billboards along major expressways are being used to help find the Bolingbrook mother of two. The billboards were donated by the Clear Channel Company.

State Police spokesman Sgt. Thomas J. Burek would not elaborate on the statement other than to say it was not issued in response to the release of the text message earlier this week.

Joel Brodsky, Drew Peterson's attorney, said this week that a sexually suggestive message sent Sept. 20 to Stacy Peterson's cell phone may be from her "secret lover." Drew Peterson has said he discovered the message in mid-December but that he doesn't know who sent it.

Ever since the mother of two vanished Oct. 28, her husband has insisted she simply left him, possibly with another man.

On Sunday, a vigil will be held in commemoration of Stacy Peterson's 24th birthday. The vigil is schedule for 4 p.m. at the Living Water Community Church, at 190 Lily Cache Lane in Bolingbrook.
