Woman Admits To Dragging, Killing Boyfriend

Lori Michelsen Pleads Guilty, But Mentally Ill

WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) ― A 43-year-old northwest suburban woman has pleaded guilty but mentally ill to charges she killed her boyfriend by hitting him with her car and dragging him for a quarter mile.

A judge sentenced Lori Michelsen of Arlington Heights to 24 years in prison on Monday. Michelsen pleaded guilty to charges of second-degree murder and aggravated driving under the influence.

Prosecutors say Michelsen ran over 28-year-old Brian Boatright of Round Lake Beach with her Volvo station wagon on Jan. 8 after he threatened to break up with her. Boatright was pronounced dead at the scene.

Michelsen's blood-alcohol level was later found to be .072, below the legal limit for drivers of .08.
