Former Chicago Ald. Dorothy Tillman is free on bond Sunday night after she was arrested for a scuffle in Alabama.
Tillman says police put her in leg chains and shackles during her arrest for criminal trespassing at an Alabama hospital.
The arrest came after a confrontation with officials at Montgomery's Jackson Hospital over access to medical records for Tillman's 86-year-old aunt.
Tillman, back home in Chicago, said she was brutalized.
A police spokesman in Montgomery said the dispute escalated and hospital staff asked her to leave. Tillman refused until she got her aunt's records, according to the spokesman, so police were called.
A spokesman for Jackson hospital in Montgomery told CBS 2 it is the hospital's policy not to release patients records until they are finished.
Tillman was angry about that so workers called security who tried to calm her down, according to the spokesman.
Tillman disputes the police account.
Tillman said: "They knocked me down to the ground. They knocked my hat off. One of them put his knees on my spine and threatened to Taser me."
Police say Tillman was arrested around 6:30 a.m. and released within a few hours. She spent about an hour and a half in jail.
The Chicago Tribune says a local pastor posted $300 bond for the 60-year-old.
A March 31st court date was set.
