Baby Also Sustains Non-Life-Threatening Injuries: Police Chief
SOUTH HOLLAND, Ill. (CBS) ―
A person of interest is in custody Monday for a stabbing that left a man dead and a 6-month-old girl injured Sunday night in south suburban South Holland.
Police identified the victim as Fias L. Mannie, 29, who was stabbed at 959 E. 159th Pl. and pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn at 7:22 p.m. Sunday, the Cook Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.
Police responded to a disturbance in the home at 6:20 p.m., in which there was an "unprovoked" attack on Mannie and his daughter, according to a South Holland police release.
Officers found Mannie outside the home with multiple stab wounds to his upper torso. His 6-month-old daughter suffered non-life threatening stab wounds.
Mannie was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, and the baby was taken to Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey and later transferred to Hope Children's Hospital in Oak Lawn, the release said.
A Michigan man named as a person of interest in the case was apprehended shortly after the stabbing, the release said. He was an invited guest of a relative of the victims.
Charges had not been filed as of early Monday afternoon.
