An Iowa woman was charged with cruel treatment of animals after she left her dog in a hot car Saturday, killing the 4-year-old Pug.
Schaumburg police received call from a local animal hospital at 3:33 p.m. Saturday reporting that a person brought in a dead dog, according to police Sgt. John Nebl.
Ya Len Lee, 29, of Cedar Rapids, Ia., went to have lunch at Woodfield Mall, located at 5 Woodfield Mall off of Golf Road.
Lee left the 4-year-old Pug in her Toyota Camry for about two hours, and when she returned the dog was unresponsive.
On Saturday, temperatures reached a high of 91-degrees, according to
www.weatherchannel.com. According to police, the veterinarian at the animal hospital said the dog's temperature was at least 107 degrees, which is significantly higher than the normal temperature of a dog.
The heat was definitely the cause of the dog's death, Nebl said.
Lee, who was in the area visiting family, was cited with cruel treatment of animals, a misdemeanor, Nebl said.
