CHICAGO (STNG) ―
A 22-year-old Urbana man was charged Tuesday with the murder of a woman found fatally shot in the roadway on I-57 near south suburban Peotone on Monday night.
Delon E. Scott is charged with one count of first-degree murder in the death of Cassondra Cawthon, 33, of Champaign, according to a release from Illinois State Police.
The incident was possibly domestic-related, the release said.
About 10:30 p.m. Monday, ISP Joliet District responded to a possible domestic situation involving a vehicle on I-57 near milepost 327. Upon arrival, troopers discovered a female with a gunshot wound lying in the southbound lanes, the release said.
"A short time later," a man seen fleeing the scene on foot was taken into custody by local police and turned over to ISP, the release said.
Scott was taken to the Will County Adult Detention facility pending a bond hearing, the release said.
Peotone is 43 miles south of Chicago.
