Teen Killed In Romeoville Crash

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. (STNG) ― A 17-year-old girl died Friday afternoon following a crash in southwest suburban Romeoville.

Just after 2 p.m. Friday, Christina Junkens, of Lockport, was making a left turn from Hale Avenue onto Romeo Road when she was struck by a 2004 Mazda which was eastbound on Romeo Road approaching Hale, according to a release from Romeoville police.

The Mazda, driven by 21-year-old Tomasz Maciaszek of Romeoville, struck the driver's side door of Junkens' vehicle, the release said.

Junkens was initially taken in critical condition to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 2:54 p.m. Friday, according Will County Coroner's office.

Maciaszek was also taken to the Bolingbrook hospital where he was treated and released, police said.

Romeoville police continue to investigate the crash. No information on citations was available Saturday morning.
