U.S. Rep. Danny Davis, D-Chicago
CBS
Congressman Danny Davis held a news conference Sunday to say he is the frontrunner in a poll his campaign conducted for the Cook County Board President Democratic primary.
Davis said he led the five candidates in "favorable" ratings among 500 Cook County voters who were polled. He registered 51 percent, he said, while incumbent Todd Stroger registered 23 percent.
If a five-way election were immediately held, Davis said he was in the lead with a plurality of 23 percent, followed by Dorothy Brown, 19 percent; Toni Preckwinkle, 13 percent; Stroger, 9 percent; and Terry O'Brien, 5 percent. Thirty-two percent said they "didn't know."
The Stroger camp did not respond to a request for comment. Messages were left with the campaigns of O'Brien and Brown. Preckwinkle said Davis, by trying to suggest he's the front-runner among the black county board president candidates, is "trying to play on the same old divisive politics we've come to expect from county government."
