2 Dead, 1 Injured In Dan Ryan Crash
CHICAGO (STNG) ―
Two fatalities have been reported after a two-vehicle crash involving a tow truck in the express lanes of the Dan Ryan Expressway Friday afternoon on the South Side.
The crash occurred on the northbound Dan Ryan north of 55th Street, according to Illinois State Police District Chicago Trooper Dan Garcia. Two fatalities have been confirmed, Garcia said.
The crash happened about 3:21 p.m., another ISP District Chicago trooper said.
Antonio Campbell, 33, and Deborah Campbell, 52, both of 10130 S. Hoxie Ave., were killed in an auto accident at the Dan Ryan Expressway (I-94) and 55th St., according to a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Both victims were pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center at 3:30 p.m. Antonio Campbell was the driver of one of the vehicles and Deborah Campbell was a passenger in the same vehicle, the medical examiner's office spokesman said.
A third person was also injured in the two-vehicle crash. That victim was taken in critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to Fire Media Affairs Assistant Director Eve Rodriguez.
Garcia said a tow truck was involved in the crash, but did not know how many other vehicles were also involved.
After the accident, the express lanes were closed and traffic was being diverted to the local lanes at 67th Street, Garcia said.
As of 9 p.m., all lanes had been re-opened, a trooper said.
