Daley: State Needs Compromise On Capital Program

CHICAGO (AP) ― Chicago Mayor Richard Daley says he hopes the Illinois legislature will stop stalling and compromise on a state capital program.

Daley said Saturday at an event in Chicago that personality politics are keeping the state government from rebuilding roads, fixing bridges, updating schools and completing other infrastructure work.

The legislature remains in a stalemate over the budget, which was supposed to take effect July 1st.

Earlier this month the Illinois House rejected a gambling expansion that would have been a major source of money to pay for the program.

Governor Rod Blagojevich blames House Speaker Michael Madigan for holding up the bill. Madigan maintains it could still happen with alternate funding sources.
