Dad Gets Probation For Caging Kids
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
Scrap hauler Ricardo Gonzalez was convicted Tuesday of child endangerment for caging his children in his pickup truck while he worked.
Cook County Judge Daniel Brennan sentenced Gonzalez, 35, of Midlothian, to 18 months of conditional discharge and ordered him to take parenting classes, Cook County State's Attorney's office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton said.
Gonzalez must also participate in the Sheriff's Work Alternative Program (SWAP) for 30 days and is prohibited from having contact with his children until the completion of his probation, Simonton said.
Posen police arrested Gonzalez in July when they found his two daughters - 2 and 5 years old - in a homemade cage behind the truck's seats.
Gonzalez said he had to restrain the girls while he worked because he did not have a babysitter for them.
