A Chicago family is mourning a promising teenager stabbed to death Friday night in Rogers Park. CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot has more on the young life cut short and his final gift this holiday season.
Chicago police say they still have no motive surrounding the death of a teen. At about 8:15 p.m. Friday, Isiah Stroud, a 16-year-old boy, was stabbed to death in Rogers Park.
"You never think it'll happen to you and it did, and it hurts," said Ester Stroud, the victim's mother "He had no weapon and witnesses say he tried to fight, but it was just too big. There was too many people."
Stroud's mother says he would use the CTA Red Line the Jarvis Avenue stop daily. He was walking along the area in Rogers Park with a friend. At the same time, a car was driving by; the people inside flashed gang signs at them, but kept going. Then, the car turned around, stopped, and that's when both of the young boys were attacked.
Stroud's friend survived the stabbing.
"But Isiah's wound was so deep, they didn't know if it was a stab wound or bullet wound, and basically he was pronounced dead on arrival," Stroud said about her son.
Stroud, of 4040 W. Roscoe St., was taken to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he was pronounced dead at 8:50 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. According to the medical examiner's office, Stroud was found at 1532 W. Jarvis Ave., which is steps away from the CTA's Jarvis Red Line station.
Stroud loved to dance. A recent video of Isiah on YouTube shows him footworking. He went by the name Frostbite. His mother says his dream was to be in a Missy Elliot video. His other passion was basketball. He won numerous trophies while playing ball at Senn High School and while on the Clarendon park District basketball team.
"The officer that came today, said he was really well known for dancing in the area and I'm like, 'that's all he wanted to do,'" Stroud said.
She said the incident is shocking. Witnesses told police, the boys that attacked her son, are as young as 13-14-years-old.
"Speak out, because it could be your brother next. It could be your nephew. We have to come together as a community," Stroud said.
With Christmas just days away, Stroud has done an unselfish act. She donated her son's organs, to give another person, the gift of life.
Area three detectives want anyone with information to call 312-744-8261.
