CTA May Sell Naming Rights For 'L' Stops

CHICAGO (CBS) ― In Chicago and virtually every major city in the world, mass transit rail stops are usually named after the street onto which they exit, or other nearby landmarks. But some Chicago 'L' stops might soon get the names of corporate sponsors.

But the Chicago Transit Authority is negotiating with possible sponsors for naming rights to some 'L' stations, the Chicago Tribune reported Monday morning.

Presently, the CTA is not saying which stations might get new names, nor which corporations they are negotiating with.

The naming rights negotiations are a move to boost revenue. The CTA has warned of a major budget shortfall for next year, and last month approved a fare hike of 25 cents for single rides.
