Car, CTA Bus Crash Head-On Along Milwaukee Avenue

No One On Bus At The Time, But Drivers Injured

CHICAGO (CBS) ― At least two people were injured early Tuesday in a head-on crash involving a car and a CTA bus on the city's Far Northwest Side.

The No. 56A Milwaukee bus and the car crashed into each other at the intersection of Devon and Milwaukee avenues around sunrise.

The bus driver was trying to turn left from Milwaukee onto Devon when the bus was struck by a car heading south on Milwaukee, CTA spokeswoman Kim Myles said.

The driver of the car was taken out on a stretcher and loaded onto an ambulance, and the driver of the bus followed.

The bus driver was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge and the car's driver, a man, was taken to Resurrection Medical Center, Jefferson Park District Sgt. Robert Delaney said.

There were no passengers on the bus.

The front ends of the car and the bus were both severely damaged.

Police shut down the intersection and a stretch of nearby Nagle Avenue, and the crash caused substantial delays during the early morning rush.

CBS 2's Kris Habermehl and the STNG Wire contributed to this report.
