The teenager accused of beating a student outside Crane High School during a violent melee in March has been indicted on attempted murder and other charges.
Lucian Meeks, 17, of the 4300 block of West Adams Street, was formally charged Monday with one count of attempted murder, three counts of aggravated battery resulting in great bodily harm and one count of aggravated battery with a weapon, according to Tandra Simonton, spokeswoman for the Cook County State's Attorney's office.
Meeks' arraignment is scheduled for July 14, she said.
Meeks was ordered held on $150,000 bond on June 9 in connection with the beating of a student outside Crane High shortly after the dismissal bell on March 7.
Police at the time said the victim, 15, was attacked with a golf club. He was initially taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in critical condition.
In a separate incident about the same time outside the Near West Side school, Ruben Ivy, an 18-year-old junior, was shot and killed, allegedly by a 15-year-old boy. Police said both incidents were gang-related.
