A June 1 trial date was set Tuesday for a Chicago cop whose alleged 2007 beating of a female bartender was captured on videotape and seen around the world.
Anthony Abbate is charged with beating Karolina Obrycka at Jesse's Shortstop Inn on the Northwest Side on Feb. 19, 2007. He is scheduled to appear on May 13 for a status hearing prior to the June 1 trial, Cook County State's Attorney's office spokeswoman Tandra Simonton said.
Abbate is charged with multiple felonies including aggravated battery in a public place, official misconduct, intimidation and communicating with a witness.
He faces a maximum of five years in prison if convicted.
A security videotape showed the 250-pound Abbate pummeling the 115-pound Obrycka -- allegedly after she refused to serve him more drinks.
A gag order remains in place concerning the case.
