Nearly 2,000 Customers Lose Power West Of Downtown
ComEd Says Equipment Failure Caused Outage In South Loop, Near West Side
CHICAGO (CBS) ―
Almost 2,000 power customers in the South Loop and on the Near West Side were left in the darkĀ for about two hours Thursday morning.
The outage affected 1,868 customers in an area bounded by Canal Street on the east, Damen Avenue on the west, Van Buren Street on the north, and 14th Street on the south, ComEd officials said.
Some traffic lights were also affected, officials said.
The outage started just after 6:30 a.m., and power was restored around 8:30 a.m., ComEd officials said. They said an equipment failure was responsible.
A Monroe District police captain said crews are checking multiple senior buildings in the outage area. The Fire Department was also sent out to check on residents at one building, Circle Park Apartments at 1111 S. Ashland Ave., a spokesman said.
ComEd could not provide specifics of the equipment failure they said caused the outage.
