Cops Seize $25M In Cocaine In Melrose Park Bust

MAYWOOD, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) ― Bond was set at $1 million each Monday for three men arrested Saturday at a west suburban business as they were allegedly unloading $25 million worth of cocaine from a truck.

Jose Reyes, 49, of 105 Country Ct. in Bolingbrook; Cosme Ruano-Reyes, 36, of 3155 S. Keeler Ave. in Chicago; and Javier Huerta, 47, of El Paso, Texas, are each charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance over 900 grams, according to a release from the Cook County Sheriff's office.

Officers from the Sheriff's High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area team raided Solar Deburring Inc. at 2001 Cornell Ave. in Melrose Park about 6 a.m. Saturday after a semi-tractor trailer arrived at the business, the release said.

Officers observed three men picking through a full load of cattle hooves packed in the trailer and pulling out certain boxes from the pallets. Reyes, the owner of the business, was then seen cutting open a package of drugs to confirm its contents, the release said.

The hooves were packaged on the truck to mask the transportation of drugs, the release said.

Officers believe the shipment came up from the southwest border of the United States, but was intended to be distributed locally, the release said.

The arrests were made by HIDTA officers from the Cook County Sheriff's police, Chicago Police, federal Drug Enforcement Administration and Palos Park and Rolling Meadows police, the release said.
