10-Year-Old Fatally Struck by Car On West Side
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
A 10-year-old boy is dead after being hit by a car Saturday night in the West Side's Austin neighborhood.
The boy was hit by a vehicle in the 4900 block of West Chicago Avenue about 7:40 p.m., according to police News Affairs Officer David Banks.
The boy was hit after walking into the flow of traffic, according to Banks, who said the accident has not been classified as a hit-and-run.
He was initially taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County in critical condition, Banks said.
Martell Jones, of 4852 W. Cortez St., was pronounced dead at 8:15 p.m., a Cook County Medical Examiner's office spokesman said.
No citations have been issued as of 6:10 a.m. Sunday.
