Chicago Cops To Attend Funeral Of Marathon Runner

Marathoner Was Michigan Police Officer

SLIDESHOW: Did You Know? Stars From Chicago!

CHICAGO (AP) ― A group of Chicago police officers are traveling to Michigan for the funeral of a Chicago marathoner.

Thirty-five-year-old Chad Schieber was a police officer in Midland, Michigan, and a father of three.

His death on Sunday during the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon was blamed on a heart problem that's a birth defect. An autopsy found the death was not related to heat stress.

Four members of the Chicago Police Department running club will attend Schieber's funeral tomorrow in Midland, Michigan.

Interim Superintendent Dana Starks says the officers will wear their dress uniforms in honor of a fellow officer whose life was unexpectedly and tragically taken.
