Police: Chicago Heights Murder Was Over A Woman
20-Year-Old Man Charged With Killing Father Of Three
CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. (STNG) ―
A 20-year-old man was charged late Tuesday with killing a Chicago Heights teenager over the weekend in a dispute believed to involve a woman, authorities said. Joseph Akins, of the the 400 block of Hickory Street in Chicago Heights, was charged with first-degree murder in the slaying of Martez Lockett, 19.
Lockett, a father of three, was found shot in the back of the head in the block where Akins lives, authorities said.
Police believe that Akins and Lockett were quarreling over a woman, Chicago Heights police Detective Joe Bruni said.
"The shooting involved a girl and pride," he said declining to elaborate.
Akins has a record of drug and theft arrests, Bruni said.
Akins was expected to appear before a judge at the Markham Courthouse at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Bond information was not immediately available.
