Big changes are in store for the Bears game at Soldier Field on Sunday. The team is banning most bags, in the wake of a terror alert. CBS 2's Anne State reports with the reason and the simple request from the team.
The team is asking fans to bring their tickets and identification, and leave everything else at home, or in the car.
Sports Authority Manager Luke Karohl says Bears fans buy jerseys, hats and especially backpacks. He says that's because they want to bring their own food into the game and avoid paying stadium prices.
"They're pretty pricey, so they're looking to bring in their own things," says Karohl.
But now those fans may want to eat before the game. The team now has a new policy. Most bags are banned as part of new security measures at Soldier Field.
"We understand that this is somewhat of an inconvenience, but certainly the safety of everybody at Soldier Field is our top priority," said Scott Hagel, Director of Corporate Communications for the Chicago Bears.
Why the changes now? The team says there has been no specific threat to Chicago, however, the NFL recommended all teams make adjustments in light of "recent information."
Counter-terrorism officials issued security bulletins to police around the country warning that terrorists may try to attack stadiums.
Here is the new bag policy:
Not allowed:
- Any size backpack
