2 Charged For Carjacking Good Samaritan
KANKAKE COUNTY (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
Two Kankakee men were charged for allegedly carjacking a Good Samaritan when they flipped their getaway vehicle after an armed robbery early Saturday in far south Bradley.
James A. Tallent, 28, of 200 S. Curtis Ave., and William C. Blunt, 27, of 575
E. Oak St., were each charged with armed robbery and possession of a stolen vehicle, Bradley police said.
The men were allegedly fleeing the scene of a 3:30 a.m. armed robbery of a Bradley BP gas station when their vehicle rolled in the northbound lanes of Interstate 57 at 139th Street near Riverdale about 4:30 a.m., police said.
Bradley police said one of the men displayed a small black handgun, demanded money and ordered a clerk into a cooler before fleeing the scene with an unspecified amount of money. One of the men also repeatedly struck the clerk in the head.
During the getaway, the robbers flipped their vehicle. When a Good Samaritan stopped to help, the suspects battered the 37-year-old man and stole his 2000 Lexus, Illinois State Police District Chicago Sgt. Mike Karpinski said.
"The Good Samaritan was battered by the two men," Karpinski said. "It appears they slugged him and threw him to the ground before stealing his car."
The stolen Lexus was then reported to be involved in a hit-and-run crash in
Kankakee and was located at Blunt's residence, Bradley police said.
One suspect was immediately taken into custody but the other fled and holed himself in a nearby apartment complex. He was later captured by Kankakee
SWAT team members, Karpinski said.
Additional charges were pending Saturday evening.
