Several Children Sickened In Carbon Monoxide Leak
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
At least seven people, including several children, were sickened Tuesday night after a carbon monoxide leak in a Humboldt Park neighborhood apartment building.
An EMS Plan 1 response was called for a gas leak in an apartment building at 1926 N. Keystone Ave. about 9 p.m., sending five ambulances to the scene Fire Media Affairs spokesman Will Knight said.
High levels of carbon monoxide were reported at the scene.
Seven people were injured, according to Knight, who said all of the patients were listed in stable condition.
Police said nine people were sickened, including four children and two teenagers. Four people -- 15-months, 8, 11, and 20 -- were taken to Our Lady of the Resurrection, three people -- 16, 17, and 32 -- went to Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center and an 8-year-old and another person whose age was unknown were taken to Norwegian-American, according to a Grand Central District sergeant, who was citing preliminary information.
The Fire Department gave a slightly different breakdown and said only seven people were injured.
The situation has been secured at 9:20 p.m., Knight said.
Officers were still investigating the incident as of 1:30 a.m. and it was not immediately known what caused the gas leak.
