The Lake County Coroner's office is responding to a fatal crash in northwest Indiana on Wednesday evening.

A team from the coroner's office went to the scene of the crash near 47th Avenue and Broadway in Gary about 3:50 p.m., according to a coroner's office spokesman, who said the team remained on the scene as of 6:10 p.m.

One adult was apparently killed in the crash, the spokesman said.

The Gary Police Dept. was not immediately available for comment.

Witnesses report that a vehicle lost control near 46th and Broadway and ended up in a back yard of a home. The coroner, as well as police and fire emergency reponse teams, are on the scene, the witnesses said.

Gary police and fire officials were not available to comment. A person at the coroner's office said that an investigator had not returned from the scene and had no comment.
