Man Charged With DUI In SW Suburban Crash

JOLIET, Ill. (STNG) ― An Orland Park man was charged with a DUI after causing a crash that resulted in him being ejected from his vehicle Saturday on the Stevenson Expressway.

Eligijus Majauskas, 26, of southwest suburban Orland Park, was charged with a DUI while hospitalized Sunday, according to Illinois State Police District Joliet Sergeant Beck.

The crash happened about 5:30 p.m. Saturday on I-55 near Route 52 in Troy Township,  Beck said.

Majaukas was heading north in his black BMW in the left lane of I-55 when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a silver Ford Focus traveling in the right lane, Beck said. After colliding with the Ford,  the BMW went into the median and eventually into the southbound lanes of I-55.

When the BMW entered the southbound lane, a white cargo van crashed into the car, ejecting the Majaukas from the vehicle and causing the BMW to burst into flames, Beck said.

Majaukas was taken to Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet in "very, very serious" condition, Beck said.

The drivers of the van and the Ford were not injured, Beck said.

I-55 was shut down for a while due to the accident.
