6 Hurt By Hit-And-Run At Bus Stop

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ― Six people were injured -- four of them seriously -- when a car careened out of control and struck a CTA bus shelter in a hit-and-run on the South Side Tuesday night.

The Chicago Fire Department was notified of the accident at 8:07 p.m., according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Rich Rosado.

A car reportedly careened out of control and struck a bus shelter, where people were waiting for a bus, at East 79th Street and South Cottage Grove Avenue, Rosado said.

Police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said a hit-and-run driver struck the people. No person is in custody as of 10:15 p.m.

Two people were taken to Jackson Park Hospital, in fair to serious condition. Two people were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious to critical condition, he said. One person was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious to critical condition and one person was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, also in serious to critical condition, Rosado said.

An Emergency Medical Services Plan I, which sends five ambulances to the scene, was called for the accident and was secured at 8:30 p.m., Rosado said.
