Strong storms injured two people when winds damaged the roof of a baseball dugout at St. Laurence High School.
A coach and a player were hurt during practice around 1:45 p.m. today at the school, which is located at 77th Street and Central Avenue in Burbank.
Kris Habermehl reports from Chopper 2 HD that the heavy-duty dugout roof was actually lifted off by the high winds.
The coach, identified as Adam Lotus, was trapped underneath the roof of the dugout after it was blown off due to severe stormy weather.
CBS 2's Dorothy Tucker reports that there were about 50 players there at the time of the accident. They were standing under the dugout when the roof was ripped off and hit the coach. The players rushed to Lotus' aid.
Lotus had to be pulled free from underneath the roof of the dugout. He was taken to Christ Hospital and is being evaluated for a possible broken leg.
A player who was taking shelter at the time was also somewhat injured. Sophomore Jim Topps said he was hit on the head and had stitches from his injuries.
CBS 2's Dorothy Tucker and Kris Habermehl contributed to this report.
