Suspects Run Out Of Gas During Police Chase
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
Two men who led police on a chase following a shooting in southwest suburban Burbank early Saturday are in custodyafter their vehicle ran out of gas.
About 2 a.m., police responded to reports of a shooting outside of The Club, a bar located at 4829 W. 77th St., according to Burbank police Capt. Tim Klein.
The shooting allegedly happened in the lounge's parking lot, but when police arrived, the victim had left the scene with a friend, Klein said.
The victim's friend, unfamiliar with the area, got lost while taking the man to the hospital and ended up somewhere in Chicago, Klein said. The friend flagged down a Chicago Police officer who called for an ambulance. The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition.
Meanwhile, police in Burbank put out a radio flash about the alleged shooter's vehicle, Klein said. Alsip police spotted the vehicle near 115th Street and Cicero Avenue and attempted to pull the motorist over, Klein said.
The vehicle sped up and a chase beganending when the suspects' vehicle ran out of gas near 151st Street and Will Cook Road in Orland Park.
Two men were taken into custody, Klein said.
The victim, who is recovering at Christ Hospital, is not cooperating with police and ultimately told detectives he would handle his disagreements with the gunman "on the street," Klein said.
Police continued to search for the weapon used in the shootingwhich may have been tossed during the chase-- and were talking with the Cook County State's Attorney's office about charges.
