Young Woman Raped In Bucktown
Police: Attack Not Believed To Be Part Of Any Pattern
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
An 18-year-old woman walking to a CTA Blue Line stop in the Bucktown neighborhood was raped early Monday.
The woman was walking north on Western Avenue to the CTA Blue Line Western stop when a man approached her from behind near Cortland Street about 4:15 a.m., police said.
The man put a knife to her throat, covered her mouth and forced her into a gangway about a half a block away and raped her at 2344 W. Moffat St., police said.
At some point before the sexual assault, the woman tried to text someone on her phone, but the attacker stole the cell phone and fled the scene. It was not known whether the person she was texting received a message.
The woman went to her home and contacted police about 5 a.m. Police met her at her home and she was taken to an unidentified hospital in an unidentified condition, police said.
The attacker was described as black man in his mid-20s, between 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-7 with a goatee, police said.
Police said the man was not in custody as of 3:30 a.m. Thursday and the attack was not thought to be part of any pattern of similar crimes.
Grand Central Area detectives are investigating.
