Young Girl, Teenage Boy Wounded In Shooting

Victims Shot Near Altgeld Gardens CHA Development

CHICAGO (STNG) ― A young girl and 15-year-old boy were wounded in a shooting Monday night near the Far South Side's Altgeld Gardens public housing development.

The teens were standing with a group of other kids outside at 13100 S. Rhodes Ave. when numerous shots were fired from about a block away and struck the girl between the ages of 11 and 14, and boy, 15, about 10:30 p.m., police said.

The boy, who was taken to Roseland Community Hospital, was shot in the foot and the girl, who was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, was shot in the thigh area. Neither injury was considered life-threatening, according to Calumet Area detectives who said several shell casings were found about a block away.

It was unknown whether the two were the target of the shooting and no one was in custody at 4:20 a.m.

Calumet Area detectives are investigating.
