10-year-old Crushed By Semi-Truck On West Side

CHICAGO (STNG) ― A 10-year-old boy attempting to cross under the trailer of a UPS semi-truck with three other children was run over and killed by the truck's wheels Thursday evening on the West Side.

Malick Brown, 10, of 5100 W. Monroe St., was struck and killed by a semi truck and pronounced dead at Stroger Hospital of Cook County at 6:57 p.m., the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.

About 4 p.m. at 348 S. Cicero Ave., Malick was struck by the back wheels of a semi-truck when he and two other children attempted to cross to the west side of the street by passing under the trailer of the truck, police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said.

The semi was stopped in traffic on Cicero Avenue but began moving while Malick was still under the trailer. The two other children passed safely underneath while a fourth child crossed the street but did not attempt to go under the trailer, Mirabelli said.

The child was struck by a UPS semi-truck, according to a police Major Accidents sergeant.

The semi-truck remained on the scene after the accident and had not received any citations as of 9 p.m., according to Mirabelli.

The Police Major Accidents Investigation Unit is probing the crash.
