Bones On South Side May Be Missing Murder Victim
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
Palatine police say Friday bones, possibly human, found on the South Side Friday may belong to a person who has been missing for more than two years that may have been murdered.
The bones, which are possibly human, were found near 110th Street and Stony Island Avenue Friday, a spokesman for the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.
Although the bones were found in Chicago, police in Palatine are investigating the remains in connection with a missing person case from "over two years ago."
"This missing person, from another jurisdiction, is now believed to be a homicide victim," according to a release Friday from Palatine police. "This investigation, while ongoing for the last seven months, has recently accelerated with information as to a possible location of the victim's remains."
The department was "in the process" of notifying the missing person's family, the release said.
"Palatine police will have no further comments on this case as it may jeopardize this ongoing investigation," the release said.
Chicago police deferred all questions to Palatine police Friday night.
