Man Killed By Blue Line Subway Train

CHICAGO (CBS) ― An unidentified man was struck and killed by a CTA Blue Line subway train Wednesday afternoon in the Loop.

The man was hit by a southbound train at the Monroe subway station at about 1:15 p.m.

Fire Media Affairs Chief Kevin MacGregor said fire personnel pulled the victim's body from the tracks, but he already had died.

The Chicago Transit Authority temporarily shut down southbound Blue Line subway service between the Grand and Racine stops, a path which includes the entire downtown stretch of the line. Southbound service was up and running again as of 3 p.m., according to the CTA's website.

Northbound trains continued running after the accident, but bypassed the Monroe station while the victim was pulled from the tracks.

Unconfirmed reports stated the man jumped in front of the train. An autopsy was scheduled for Thursday.
