Firefighters Respond To High-Rise Blaze

CHICAGO (CBS) ― Firefighters responded to a fire on the roof of a downtown apartment/condo building on Tuesday afternoon.

Around 3 p.m. several trucks were sent to the Columbus Plaza apartments on 233 East Wacker.  Officials said the fire was contained to a cooling tower on the roof.

The fire was struck out around 3:30 p.m., according to fire dispatchers. There were no injuries.

Black smoke could be seen from the fire throughout the downtown area.

The 48-story skyscraper was built in the late 1970s or early 1980s and is located just east of the Hyatt.
