Cash savings are very real this time around. They're practically giving things away this Black Friday. And we know where and how little it will cost you. That's because CBS 2's Dorothy Tucker got her hands on deals not yet published.
Armed with a list and checking it often, we set out to find the best deals for Black Friday. Midnight is the earliest you can shop for the Friday sales. That's when Toys R Us opens.
Dalila Hernandez had her eye on a train set.
"That's right now over $100, $150 and it's $79.99 on Friday, so obviously I'll get that," said Hernandez.
The hottest deal at Toys R Us is the iPod touch for $199 with a $50 gift card. You'll find basically the same deal at Wal-Mart.
"Another hot item in electronics is this Magnavox Blu-ray player," said a clerk at Wal-Mart.
The cost right now: $128. On Black Friday: $78.
Target is where you'll find the cheapest 32-inch LCD TV, along with door busters like $3 appliances, including a toaster and coffee maker.
You'll find hard drives on sale at Staples. It's a door buster item for $69.99.
Would shoppers come out for Black Friday if they didn't have such great deals?
"Probably not," said shopper John Strel.
Retailers know they've got to offer great deals this season. Experts say they will.
"Black Friday's going to have considerably better pricing than a month ago, than six months ago, than last Christmas," said Brad Wilson of BlackFriday2009.com.
A preview of most deals can be found at various websites, such as
BlackFriday2009.com.
Some retailers are also using Twitter and Facebook to give shoppers an early look, but we found some Black Friday deals that won't be widely advertised.
For example, at Aeropostale, everything in the store will be 50 percent off. And if you spend $100, you get a free teddy bear.
At The Body Shop, it's a buy one get one free deal.
"It won't be just an early bird special, it'll be all day," said Katie Hofstra, a clerk at Body Shop.
American Girl has select $15 DVDs for $5.
Another great deal is being offered by the Water Tower Place mall.
"If you spend $100 before noon, you'll receive a $10 Shop Etc. American Express gift card," said Katie Lindsay, marketing manager for Water Tower Place mall.
There are also other malls offering gift cards for spending $100 or $200, so check out your favorite mall. Usually what you have to do is save all your receipts for the day and take them to the mall's information center.
