Family Sues Holiday Inn Over Bed Bug Infestation
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
A family filed a lawsuit against a northwest suburban hotel Wednesday after the room they rented was allegedly infested with bed bugswhich they unwittingly ended up bringing to their home.
Chowdhury Taher, Batool Farooq and their child Rehan Chowdhury went to the Holiday Inn Select-Chicago O'Hare, 10233 W. Higgins Rd. in Rosemont, on August 25, 2007 and rented a room, according to a suit filed in Cook County Circuit court Wednesday.
The family did not know at the time that the room was infested with bed bugs.
The suit, which names First Hospitality Group, Inc., Holiday Inn Select-Chicago O'Hare and Rosemont RREF, LLC as defendants, claims the Holiday Inn failed to exterminate the infestation, and knowingly rented the room anyway.
It also claims the family ended up taking the bugs home with them, leading to an infestation of their own.
The incident caused physical and psychological injuries, medical expenses, pain and suffering and loss of wages, the suit alleges. It also caused the family to spend "unnecessary time and expenses" in attempts to get rid of the bugs in their home.
The suit asks for more than $50,000 in damages.
