2 Banks Robbed And Third Attempted On Same Day

CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ― Wednesday was a busy day for a man suspected of robbing banks in the Ukrainian Village neighborhood and in northwest suburban Elmwood Park, while also trying to rob a third in west suburban Northlake.

The man, captured on video surveillance cameras, struck the National City Bank branch at 2100 W. Chicago Ave. about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, according to an FBI release. He walked into the bank, handed the teller a note and threatened harm if his demands for cash were not met.

He implied he had a weapon, but no weapon was observed. After getting an undisclosed amount in cash, he fled on foot in an unknown direction, the release said. No injuries were reported.

The man is also suspected of robbing a Charter One Bank branch at 7312 W. Grand in Elmwood Park on Wednesday, and attempting to rob a U.S. Bank branch at 26 W. North Avenue in North Lake, also on Wednesday.

He is also a suspect in the Dec. 10 robbery of a TCF Bank branch at 800 W. North Ave. in Melrose Park on Dec. 10.

He is described as a white man in his 50s, 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-6 with gray hair, according to the FBI.

Anyone with information on any of the robberies should call the Chicago office of the FBI at (312) 421-6700.
