Man Accused Of Setting Baby Raccoon On Fire

Roger Davidson To Police: It's 'Not Like It's A Real Animal Like A Dog'

CHICAGO (STNG) ― Bond was set at $250,000 Thursday for a Chicago man charged with animal torture for allegedly setting a baby raccoon on fire on the South Side.

Prosecutors claim police saw Roger Davidson chasing a flaming object and pouring gasoline on it abpout 10:47 p.m. Wednesday along the 5800 block of South Laflin Street, Cook County States Attorney's office spokesman Andy Conklin said.

The "object" was a baby raccoon on fire, court records said.

Davidson, of 5658 S. Bishop St., allegedly told police he wanted to see what would happen. He allegedly told police it's "not like it's a real animal like a dog," prosecutors said.

Officers had to destroy the raccoon, court records said.

Davidson is charged with one count of animal torture, a Class 3 felony, Conklin said. The 20-year-old faces two to five years in prison if convicted.

He appeared before Judge Raymond Myles, who set a preliminary hearing for July 23, Conklin said.
