Infant Abandoned In Pile Of Garbage

Police Search For Woman Suspected Of Leaving 'Baby Jessica' Behind

FRANKLIN PARK, Ill. (CBS) ― Police in the northwest suburbs are looking for help from the public in their search for the mother of a newborn who was abandoned in a garbage heap.

Surveillance video captured the woman at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights on Sept. 29, the same day the infant was discarded.

Police believe a Hispanic woman in her early 20s is the mother of the infant girl, who has been named Baby Jessica.

The child was found buckled in a car seat, wedged between items in a pile of trash in Franklin Park. The car seat was the same type found in the surveillance video.

The baby was wearing clothes donated by the hospital when she was found.

Baby Jessica has been reported in good condition. The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services has placed her with foster parents.
