Aurora Man Fatally Shot While Sitting On His Porch

AURORA, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) ― A 38-year-old man was fatally shot while sitting on his porch in west suburban Aurora Wednesday night, and two men who were with him were also shot.

Donald C. Franklin, of the 200 block of North Kendall Street, was shot multiple times as he sat on his porch with some other men about 11:41 p.m. Wednesday, according to Aurora police. He was taken to Provena Mercy Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 12:20 a.m. Thursday.

Two other Aurora men who were on the porch were also hit by gunfire, according to a release from police. A 36-year-old man suffered a non-life-threatening wound to his arm and was treated at an Aurora hospital. A 45-year-old man was grazed in in the neck by a bullet but refused medical treatment.

Police on Thursday said they have few leads and no suspect information. The victims and other witnesses in the area only said they heard several gunshots but did not know where they came from. No motive has been established.

Anyone with information should call Aurora Police at (630) 801-6655 or Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000. Callers to Crime Stoppers qualify for a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest.

An autopsy on Franklin is scheduled for later Thursday at the Kane County Coroner's office.
