Armed Robbery Reported In Uptown

CHICAGO (STNG) ― Two men, one of them armed, robbed a couple walking on Clark Street in their Uptown neighborhood on the North Side late Sunday.

A 43-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were walking when about 11:15 p.m. they were robbed at 4701 N. Clark St. near the intersection of West Leland Avenue and North Clark Street, according to Town Hall District police Lt. Bob Kohnen.

The man and woman were walking only blocks from their apartment when two black males, both described as being about 20-years-old wearing black shorts and shoes and dark colored hoodies, asked the man for a light, apparently for a cigarette, according to Kohnen.

One of the suspects who is about 5-foot-6 then removed a blue-steel handgun from his waistband and placed it into the man's stomach and said, "let me get that for you," according to the lieutenant, who said he did not know the meaning of the statement.

One of the two suspects removed cash from the man's pocket before both fled west on Leland Avenue on foot. No shots were fired and no injuries were reported.

The apparently unarmed suspect was described as 6-foot-3 with brown eyes and a dark complexion.

The suspects were not in custody at 2:30 a.m, according to the lieutenant.

It was not immediately known whether this attack was related to two separate armed robberies that occurred over the weekend in which two men were robbed by an "extremely heavy set" black man, according to Kohnen, who said weights were not given for the suspects in the Clark Street incident.

About 3 or 4 a.m. Sunday a man who was at the lakefront at Fullerton Avenue was robbed of cash by the armed heavy-set man.

Around the same time early Saturday another man was robbed of cash by a single suspect matching the description of the Fullerton robbery near the intersection of North Halsted Street and West Aldine Avenue, the lieutenant said.

In both earlier incidents, no shots were fired and no injuries were reported.
