Jury: Andre Crawford Eligible For Death Penalty
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
A Cook County jury ruled Friday afternoon that Andre Crawford is eligible for the death penalty for a string of rapes and murders on the South Side in the 1990s, the Sun-Times is reporting.
Crawford was found guilty Thursday of stabbing, strangling and bludgeoning 11 drug addicts and prostitutes, and brutally assaulting a
12th victim who got away after she "played dead."
Crawford, who agreed to exchange drugs for sex with his victims, mostly killed the women out of anger when they expressed they wanted to get high before getting intimate, according to prosecutors.
Often, he would kill the victims, smoke crack cocaine and return to have sex with their corpses in abandoned buildings where some of their decomposing bodies were discovered months later, according to prosecutors.
DNA evidence from eight of the victims were linked to Crawford, 47.
