Amber Alert Canceled, Suspect Killed In Shootout
KENOSHA, Wis. (Lake County News-Sun) ―
A 22-month old girl, the subject of an Amber Alert, is reportedly safe and her father fatally shot by police on Monday afternoon in southern Wisconsin.
Antonio Torres, 41, was shot and killed during a stand-off with Walworth County (Wis.) sheriffs after he displayed a weapon when he was stopped this afternoon on Route 50, police said.
Police say Torres had taken his daughter Liliana Torres from a home in Kenosha earlier Monday. He was believed to be on his way to Waukegan or Zion where he has relatives.
Police say Torres called police before 11 a.m. claiming he had just beaten up a 32-year old woman, believed to be the girl's mother, and needed a rescue squad.
When officers arrived at 5225 43rd Ave. in Kenosha, they found the unidentified woman but Torres had left the scene with the girl. An Amber Alert was then issued.
Police say Torres later called to inquire about the woman and police tried to persuade him to turn himself in. But he refused and instead threatened to kill himself and the child.
The girl's mother is an Elkhart, Wis., hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. She is expected to be reunited with her daughter late Monday afternoon.
